Rainbow Patchwork Tank [Mar. 15th, 2011|09:34 am]

How many times and in how many languages can I say LOVE?!  I've purchased a skirt from  http://hipmountainmama.comCollapse ) ( and love to wear it with flats, boots or flip flops on nice days, and also a killer pair of tie dyed leg warmers that are perfect under my slacks on chilly days, as well as over my compression socks on long group runs (I want to make sure I'm visible to cars!)

When I purchased ) I wasn't exactly sure how it would fit on my body, since I can normally wear anywhere from an extra small (yay Old Navy!) to an XL, depending on the brands and type of shirt.  I purchased it  in a small, based on the measurements on the website and was so happy that it fit on arrival! It's a little snug in the lady region, but I can deal!  It is so colorful and I love all the intricate detailing on each patch, as well as a little feminine flirty style of the lace trim on the bottom.  The adjustable button closures for the straps make it perfect for any size/height.

I did a review for HMM awhile ago for a pair of great bamboo reusable flatware, and this time, Natural Family SuppliesCollapse ) is hosting a great giveaway featuring the same set of utensils (I'm in need of another for work), and also a tiffin and carrier bag! I've been wanting to get one of these for quite some time, but have been low on cash, so it would be wonderful to win one!

Sisterhood Review: Eco-Friendly Handmade Skirt [Nov. 3rd, 2010|08:18 pm]
Yes folks, you read that right... me... in a skirt. And smiling, to boot!  For those that know me, you know I only wear dresses or skirts maybe 2-3 times a year, but I'm trying really hard to bust out the girly side (heh, who knew one existed, right?) and wear them more frequently (baby steps. I'm still wearing shorts underneath them!)

Most skirts that you find in the stores look like they barely cover your undies, so I knew that wasn't the direction I wanted to go in.  I finally found one that is long enough to leave me not blushing, and completely able to bend over, sit down, and do a mean hi-ya karate kick!  Not to mention it is ridiculously comfy and since it's brown, it goes with almost anything!  Kudos to  Hip Mountain Mama ( for providing this amazing skirt.   I'm planning on wearing this later this month when I give thanks to the mashed potatoes, and send a silent "I'm sorry" to all the turkeys (hey, vegetarians can enjoy T-Day, too, but I still feel guilty for others eating that silly looking bird).  I think it will go great with my maroon tights and Toms shoes.  Now what to wear on top!

It will last me through many seasons and many pairings, and I feel great wearing it because it's organic cotton and hemp, two of my favorite pairings.  It's a little snug right now, but I'm hoping with a little lovin, it will stretch out a little bit.  The waistband itself is pretty stretchy (and since I'm so short), I can wear it at my hip for extra length and coverage, or pulled up to my actual waist (that hasn't happened in about 15 years!) for some knee-length action.  After all, knee caps are so hot!

from Kahului, HI [Oct. 31st, 2010|11:31 am]
It's our last day in Maui, and I don't want to go back home! The sun wasn't out for the first 3-4 days, so we're finally starting to get some good weather and now it's time to head home (isn't that always how it is on vacation?!)  We went to a luau, snorkeled Molokini (note to self: NEVER do that again. You and your breakfast will regret it!), snorkeled Black ROck (way better. no boat required!), and ziplined near Haleakalā Crater yesterday.  That was a pretty awesome experience.  We did it with an eco-tour company, so a portion of what we paid for the zipline tour goes back to the forest we ziplined through, and also to help certain near-extinct local birds.

We leave tonight, so we're trying to get as much beach/pool time as we possibly can before we have to check out of the hotel and head to the airport.  Then an overnight flight with 5 hours of sleep (maximum. And that's if I even can fall asleep!) We land at LAX at 450am PST (so it will feel like 150am HST (oy), and then a 2 hour drive from LAX back to San DIego. I'm crossing my fingers for now traffic, but you know that's not going to happen!

no throwaways for me! [Oct. 8th, 2010|02:50 pm]

I have the unique and kind of awesome opportunity to review some products I purchase from Hip Mountain Mama , a small, family-run business that feauters natural and eco-friendly clothes, home accessories, and all kinds of goodies!

I bought a set of To Go Ware bamboo utensils a few months back and instantly fell in love!  The carrying case is made of recycled materials, and bamboo is a great replenishable source.  I keep this set in my purse at all times:

It got me through 2 days/nights of Lilith Fair, a Dave Matthews band concert, a couple picnics and plenty of restaurant trips.  Whenever a restaurant offers you plastic disposable cutlery/silverware, say no thanks and pull out your own set.  They last for ages and don't end up sitting in landfills like all other "disposable" and convenient utensils.  Plus, the case come sin a few cute colors, so how can you resist? Plus, it's always a conversation starter when you pull them out!

The fork and spoon are the perfect size, the chopsticks are really handy and there's even a knife that's surprisingly sharp, but not dangerous. Think, sharp enough to slice an apple, but not your skin. Perfect right?

weekend getaway [Oct. 6th, 2010|05:08 pm]
Had an amazing weekend in San Francisco, and now it's back to the grindstone; trying to make up the hours that I missed, falling asleep at my keyboard, etc., but well worth it! As is tradition, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in Golden Gate Park was this past weekend (and the 10th Anniversary to boot!); it wasn't a problem last year since I was at home, but now that I'm living back in San Diego and Laurelita is in law school in Portland, it takes a bit more planning.  We booked our flights to arrive within 20 minutes of each other, and it was such a great reunion. We're such saps; both of us had a tear in our eyes when we saw each other - it's been way too long!  B picked us up at the airport and that started our weekend long adventure of banjos, slide guitars and cooooold weather.

Joan Baez, Gillian Welch, Indigo Girls, Evlis Costello, Emmylou Harris and the Avett Brothers made this year incredible! ... also, it's always super entertaining just to go and people watch. Come on, a FREE 3 day festival in Golden Gate Park featuring amazing bluegrass music? Hundreds of thousands of people show up throughout the weekend and there's always characters.

Can't wait til HSB 2011!

movin on [Sep. 27th, 2010|06:41 pm]
New place, new job!  So I moved out of my old place almost a month ago and moved in with a friend and her husband.  Since I was laid off thanks to the CA budget cuts, rent all by myself was a little too steep.  Don't get me wrong, I loved having my own place, my own space, and all that good stuff, but  you all know California isn't cheap!  I'm getting used to living with roommates again and so far, so good (although I do miss my long, relaxing showers!)  It's all for the best though.

The new temp job is going well, but I continue to apply for other jobs in my field; no luck so far. Come on guys, how many rejections can a girl take?!

It's been months since my last entry, since I pretty much only use this to read other peoples journals and communities, but I thought I'd give a short little update.

I can't believe it's already the end of April, and I only have about 3 months and a week left until I leave Germany and go back to life in California.  And I'm sad! I'm going to miss Tuebingen so much! (and as I typed that sentence, the church bells starting ringing and I got sad again. I'm going to miss that sound).

I need to get what little travelling I can afford planned out, since there's not much time left.
